The Punjab and Haryana High Court disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the principal of Government High School, Jamalpur Awana, District Ludhiana, for having cut three fully-grown healthy trees in the school premises thereby causing adverse impact to the environment.

On issuance of notice by the High Court, a status report has been filed in Court by way an affidavit of respondent No.6 (Headmistress of Government High School, Jamalpur Awana, District Ludhiana), which is accompanied with certain photographs showing that number of trees have now been planted within and outside the premises of the school in question.

In view of the above, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal found that Courts need not continue with the petition and the same stands disposed of by the High Court.

However, the Court directed the respondent No.6 to be careful in future and also take care of the trees which have now been planted within and outside the premises of the school and file a report as to the status of those planted trees in the school before the Registrar (Judicial) of the Court on 31.05.2025.
