The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of five additional judges of the Madras High Court as permanent judges of the same High Court.

These include Justice Lekshmana Chandra Victoria Gowri, Justice Pillaipakkam Bahukutumbi Balaji, Justice Kandhasami Kulandaivelu Ramakrishnan, Justice Ramachandran Kalaimathi, and Justice K Govindarajan Thilakavadi.

On April 29, 2024, the Madras High Court Collegium unanimously recommended the names of these additional judges, including three women judges, to be made permanent.

A resolution issued by the Madras High Court Collegium said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi concurred with their recommendation, following which the High Court consulted a Supreme Court judge and took the decision.

The resolution further stated that a Committee of two Supreme Court judges had assessed the judgments and merit of these five additional judges, noting that they were fit and suitable for being appointed as permanent Judges.
