Chhattisgarh High Court dismisses PIL against Patna’s conversion to Nagar Panchayat, citing premature action

The Chhattisgarh High Court has dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed challenging the conversion of Gram Panchayat, Patna, to Nagar Panchayat.

The petitioners contested a notification dated September 20, 2023, and an order dated June 28, 2024, dismissing their objections.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Bibhu Datta Guru deemed the petition premature, citing the availability of alternative remedies for the petitioners.

The judges noted that the petitioners’ grievances could be addressed through appropriate forums.

This was the second round of litigation on the matter, with the High Court previously directing authorities to decide on the petitioners’ objections within eight weeks.
