Uttarakhand High Court dismisses PIL challenging road alignment in construction project at Pauri Garhwal

25/10/2024BlogNo Comments

The Uttarakhand High Court has dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed challenging the alignment of a road construction project in Pauri Garhwal district.

The petitioner sought to revert to the original alignment, agreed upon during Gram Sabhas, citing concerns over the changed route.

The Division Bench of Acting Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Justice Vivek Bharti Sharma refused to interfere, citing the expertise of authorities in deciding the alignment and potential huge losses to the public exchequer if construction was halted.

The court noted that over 2 km of the road had already been constructed.

The project involved constructing a 4 km road between Amkholi and Nalai Malli.

The alignment was changed, sparking the PIL.

The state counsel argued that the petition was filed for political reasons and not in public interest.

The court deemed interference counterproductive, considering local needs and topographical conditions.
