Punjab and Haryana High Court disposes PIL seeking probe against Naya Gaon municipal officials

13/11/2024BlogNo Comments

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition by one Sher Singh, directing respondent authorities to conduct an inquiry against officials responsible for deficient functions of the Municipal Council, Naya Gaon and take action.

The PIL highlighted the Municipal Council’s failure to repair and cover damaged/open manholes on the main road connecting Khuda Ali Sher to Naya Gaon and further leading to Forest Hill Club.

Following directions from the Court, all 33 manholes on the said road have been repaired/covered.

To prevent any recurrence of the incident, the court, comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal, directed that respondent authorities to:

– Conduct an inquiry into the matter

– Take appropriate action against erring officials/officers

– File a report before the Registry of the Court within a month

Although the Court was inclined to impose costs, it refrained from doing so, considering it the first incident.
