Supreme Court directs AIFF to take steps for timely commencement of Football Season

03/09/2025BlogNo Comments

The Supreme Court has directed the All India Football Federation to initiate steps for the timely commencement of the football season, including the Indian Super League. This development comes after the court oversaw the appointment of a Committee of Administrators to draft a new constitution for the AIFF in line with the National Sports Code and Model Guidelines.

The Committee of Administrators was tasked with finalizing a draft constitution after circulating it to AIFF constituent units for feedback. They were also directed to compile objections and suggestions on the proposed constitution, along with their inputs, into a tabulated statement. The court emphasized the need for democratic governance and timely elections to the AIFF Executive Committee.

The Supreme Court’s involvement stems from a judgment setting aside the elections to the AIFF Executive Committee. The court appointed a Committee of Administrators to oversee the drafting of a new constitution and ensure fresh elections. This move aimed to bring transparency and accountability to the AIFF’s governance.

The Committee of Administrators, comprising Justice Anil R. Dave, Dr. S.Y. Qureshi, and Bhaskar Ganguly, was responsible for drafting the constitution and overseeing elections. Their efforts are expected to bring much-needed reforms to Indian football governance, ensuring the sport’s growth and development in the country. The Supreme Court’s directives are a significant step towards improving the governance of Indian football.
