Abhishek Bachchan moves Delhi High Court to stop misuse of his Name, image and likeness

10/09/2025BlogNo Comments

Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has moved the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights against the unauthorised use of his name, image, voice, and likeness by third parties. The plea highlights that several online platforms, including websites, YouTube channels, and e-commerce sites, have been misusing his identity for commercial gain through merchandise sales, videos, wallpapers, AI-generated deepfakes, and other forms of digital content.

Represented by senior advocate Pravin Anand, Bachchan has requested the Court to restrain such activities, stressing that they amount to trademark misuse, unfair competition, defamation, and irreparable harm to his reputation.

During the brief hearing, Justice Tejas Karia indicated that once specific URLs are provided, the Court can direct intermediaries like Google, YouTube, Amazon, and Flipkart to remove the infringing content. The judge also clarified that blanket orders would not be issued and each infringer must be identified individually. Bachchan’s counsel assured that a list of infringing links would be submitted to the Court by the end of the day. The case, registered as Abhishek Bachchan v. The Bollywood Tee Shop and ors., is scheduled for further hearing later in the afternoon.

The petition comes days after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan filed a similar plea before the same court to safeguard her personality and publicity rights, particularly against AI-generated pornographic content and other forms of identity misuse. With both actors approaching the Delhi High Court within the same week, the issue underscores the growing legal challenges celebrities face in protecting their identities from exploitation in the digital age.
