Delhi Court frames charges against Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, and Tejashwi Yadav in IRCTC scam case

A Delhi court has framed charges against Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, and their son Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the alleged IRCTC scam. The order was passed by Special Judge (PC Act) Vishal Gogne at the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi.

Lalu Prasad Yadav has been charged with corruption, criminal conspiracy, and cheating, while Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav face charges of conspiracy and cheating. All three have pleaded not guilty, and the case will now proceed to trial.

According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the alleged scam took place during Lalu Prasad Yadav’s tenure as Union Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009. The agency has claimed that contracts for the operation of IRCTC hotels in Ranchi and Puri were irregularly awarded to a private firm, Sujata Hotels, through a manipulated tender process.

In exchange, valuable land parcels were allegedly transferred to companies linked to Lalu Yadav’s family at rates far below their market value. The CBI contends that this arrangement amounted to a quid pro quo, forming the basis of the corruption case.

The accused have denied all allegations, calling the case politically motivated and lacking credible evidence. They argue that no illegality occurred in the tender process and that the prosecution has failed to establish any wrongful gain or loss. The court has now decided to begin the trial, during which evidence and witness statements will be examined to determine the veracity of the charges.
