The Supreme Court has ordered security for a young woman from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, and her widowed mother after they alleged harassment and misuse of legal process by a close family member in a property dispute.
The woman, who is a practising lawyer, told the Court that her paternal uncle was pressuring them over ancestral property and had allegedly influenced the local police to act against them. She claimed that a criminal case, including allegations involving acid attack threats, was falsely initiated to intimidate her and her mother.
Taking note of the allegations, the apex court directed the Uttar Pradesh police to ensure the safety of both petitioners. The Court further ordered that no coercive steps be taken against them and restrained authorities from registering any new cases without prior approval.
The bench also instructed the Superintendent of Police, Bulandshahr, to look into the background of the dispute and submit a report to the Court. In addition, the uncle and his family were barred from transferring or dealing with the disputed property until further orders.
The Supreme Court emphasising the role of constitutional remedies, tthat it remains committed to protecting individuals who approach it seeking relief against alleged abuse of power and harassment.
