Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court Complex has framed charges against former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi in connection with the alleged land-for-jobs scam.
The court observed that, at the prima facie stage, the material placed on record suggested the existence of a conspiracy purportedly “mentored by Lalu” during his tenure as Railway Minister. According to the prosecution’s case, railway appointments were allegedly offered in exchange for parcels of land that were later transferred to members of the Yadav family or their associates. The court noted that the allegations indicated the use of public employment as leverage to secure private land holdings.
Framing of charges does not amount to a finding of guilt but signifies that the court has found sufficient grounds to proceed to trial. Both Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi have denied the accusations and contested the claims made by the investigating agency.
With charges now formally framed, the matter will move to the trial stage, where evidence will be examined and witnesses will be heard before the court reaches a final determination on the allegations.
