Supreme Court declares June 2025 Advocate-on-Record exam results; 207 candidates qualify

The Supreme Court of India has declared the results of the Advocate-on-Record (AOR) Examination conducted in June 2025, bringing clarity and closure to hundreds of advocates who appeared for the highly competitive assessment. With the publication of the results, successful candidates are now eligible to be registered as Advocates-on-Record, a distinction that enables them to act and plead independently before the country’s highest court.

According to the officially released data, 207 candidates have successfully cleared the examination this year. The announcement marks a significant professional milestone for these advocates, as the AOR designation carries both responsibility and prestige. Only Advocates-on-Record are authorized to file cases, submit pleadings, and formally represent litigants before the Supreme Court. Other advocates may argue matters, but procedural filings and accountability rest solely with an AOR.

The AOR examination is regarded as one of the most rigorous qualifying processes in the Indian legal system. It tests candidates on multiple aspects of Supreme Court practice, including drafting, procedural rules, professional ethics, and substantive law. Lawyers seeking to appear for the exam must fulfill specific eligibility requirements, including a prescribed period of training under an existing Advocate-on-Record and prior years of legal practice.

The release of the June 2025 results not only recognizes the efforts of those who qualified but also reflects the court’s continued emphasis on maintaining high standards of professional competence among practitioners. Clearing the AOR examination signifies that an advocate possesses the technical knowledge and procedural expertise necessary to handle matters before the apex court.

Candidates who have passed the examination can now proceed with the formal registration formalities required to obtain their Advocate-on-Record status. Once registered, they will be entitled to file vakalatnamas, institute proceedings, and take procedural responsibility for cases before the Supreme Court.

For many young practitioners, achieving the AOR designation represents a transformative step in their careers. It opens the door to independent practice at the highest judicial forum in the country and enhances professional credibility within the legal community. The announcement of the June 2025 results thus marks an important development for the successful candidates and for the broader landscape of Supreme Court litigation in India.
