The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of 10 advocates and three judicial officers as judges at the High Courts of Punjab & Haryana and Andhra Pradesh.
The Apex Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and also comprising Justice BV Nagarathna, Justice JK Maheshwari, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice MM Sundresh as its members, took the decision during a meeting held on May 4, 2026.
The Collegium moved two separate resolutions, clearing the names of 10 lawyers, including Advocates Monica Chhibber Sharma, Harmeet Singh Deol, Puja Chopra, Sunish Bindlish, Navdeep Singh, Divya Sharma, Ravinder Malik, Pravindra Singh Chauhan, Rajesh Gaur, and Minderjeet Yadav, for appointment as judges at the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Among those recommended, Advocate Pravindra Singh Chauhan is currently serving as the Advocate General of Haryana, while Advocate Harmeet Singh Deol is functioning as Additional Advocate General of Punjab.
In a separate resolution, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the elevation of three judicial officers as judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. These included Sunitha Gandham, Alapati Giridhar and Purushottam Kumar Chintalapudi.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court, which oversees the judicial functioning of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, is currently working with a strength of 58 judges, including Chief Justice Sheel Nagu, against its sanctioned strength of 85. With these recommendations, the High Court’s working strength is expected to increase to 68.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court is currently working with a strength of 32 judges, including Chief Justice Lisa Gill, against a sanctioned strength of 37. With these recommendations, the High Court’s working strength is expected to rise to 35.
