Patna High Court issues notice to Bihar government on Khan Sir plea seeking quashing of FIR in Khan Global Studies firing case

The Patna High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Bihar government on a petition filed by YouTuber Faizal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, seeking quashing of the First Information Report (FIR) registered against him in connection with the recent firing and violence incident at his coaching institute in Patna.

After hearing preliminary submissions, the Court granted four weeks’ time to the Bihar government to file its response on the writ petition and listed the matter for further consideration.

The case arises from an incident that occurred on June 2, when a group of approximately 15 to 20 persons allegedly vandalised the premises of Khan Global Studies (KGS) in Patna and pelted stones at the coaching institute. The incident triggered a criminal investigation and led to registration of a case by the police.

During the course of the investigation, police detained two security guards associated with the institute after a video purportedly showing firing during the incident surfaced on social media. According to the investigating agency, the firearms allegedly used in the incident were seized and sent for forensic examination. An FIR was subsequently registered at Kadamkuan Police Station, and both security personnel were remanded to judicial custody.

The police have claimed that during interrogation, the security guards allegedly stated that they had acted on instructions issued by Khan Sir and certain other persons to open fire on the crowd gathered outside the institute. These allegations form part of the prosecution’s case presently under investigation.

Challenging the legality of the FIR and the criminal proceedings initiated against him, Khan Sir has now sought judicial intervention from the High Court. He has also requested restoration of normal functioning at the coaching institute by seeking appropriate directions for its reopening. The institute has remained closed following the incident and the subsequent police action.

The development comes a day after a Sessions Court in Patna granted interim anticipatory bail to Khan Sir in connection with the same FIR, protecting him from arrest while the investigation continues. The Patna High Court will now examine the validity of the FIR, the allegations levelled against him, and his plea for reopening the institute after receiving the State’s response.
