CJP founder Abhijit Dipke granted conditional bail, asked to furnish bond after fresh detention

Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Dipke has been granted conditional bail by a Special Executive Magistrate in Delhi and asked to sign a bond before his release, following his preventive detention ahead of a planned protest in the national capital.

Dipke was detained by Delhi Police on October 16 amid preparations for demonstrations linked to the demand for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. The police action came after authorities had reportedly served him notices directing him not to visit Central Park in Connaught Place.

According to the police, Dipke allegedly failed to comply with the directions, prompting preventive action under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The provisions deal with proceedings to secure bonds for maintaining peace and preventive arrests to avert the commission of cognisable offences.

The CJP founder had earlier been detained along with party co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka on October 10, ahead of a planned demonstration against the Election Commission. The three were subsequently released by an Executive Magistrate after furnishing bonds of ₹50,000 each and undertaking to maintain peace and good behaviour for one year.

The latest detention has brought renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the proposed protests and the police action against organisers. CJP representatives have questioned the legality of the detention, alleging that Dipke was taken away without adequate information about his whereabouts and that access to legal counsel was restricted.

The party had planned demonstrations involving the national flag and demands concerning alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

Delhi Police has maintained that its preventive measures were intended to avert a breach of peace. Dipke’s release is expected to follow completion of the bond formalities ordered by the magistrate.
