Media company ABP Group has put out an unconditional apology for publishing a news item on its Hindi website making unsubstantiated allegations against Senior Advocate Pradeep Rai.

The report published on May 30, 2023 had alleged the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force had summoned Senior Advocate Rai for questioning. It had also claimed Rai was related to one Sanjay Rai Sherpuria and served as a director in Sherpuria’s companies.

The apology put out on Wednesday says the allegations made in the story were completely false. ABPLive.com said it deeply regretted the error and unconditionally apologised to Senior Advocate Pradeep Rai, his family and friends for the inconvenience caused by the publication of the article.

Reacting to the apology on LinkedIn, Rai said, “Thank you for the correction and apology. I appreciate the acknowledgment, and I am pleased to put this matter behind us.”

Given below is the translated text of the apology put out by the website:

“On May 30, 2023, at 8:01 am, an article was published on www.abplive.com stating that Shri Pradeep Rai, a senior Supreme Court advocate, was summoned by the STF for questioning. The article further claimed that Shri Rai is a relative of one Sanjay Rai Sherpuria and serves as a director in his companies. This information was completely false. The article was removed at 8.05 am on the same day. We deeply regret this error and unconditionally apologise to Shri Pradeep Rai, his family and friends for any inconvenience caused by this article.”
