The Supreme Court has directed that its existing interim orders in the Aravalli Hills matter will continue and has issued notice to the concerned parties as it proceeds to examine the issues involved in the long-pending environmental case.
The matter relates to the identification, definition, and protection of the ecologically sensitive Aravalli range, which spans multiple states and has been facing concerns over mining and degradation. During the hearing, the Court decided to maintain the status quo by keeping its earlier interim directions in force until further orders.
The Bench indicated that the issues raised require careful consideration, particularly in view of the environmental impact and the need for a scientifically sound approach. To aid this process, the Court signalled that expert inputs may be necessary and called upon stakeholders to participate constructively in the proceedings.
By issuing notice, the Supreme Court has invited responses from the Union Government and other concerned authorities. The case has been listed for further hearing, during which the Court is expected to deliberate on long-term measures for safeguarding the Aravalli region while balancing regulatory and developmental concerns.
