The Central Bureau of Investigation has objected to a plea seeking the transfer of multiple criminal cases involving RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family from the court of Special Judge Vishal Gogne. The agency has argued that the request is a deliberate attempt to cast aspersions on the judiciary and disrupt the ongoing legal process.
The transfer application, filed by former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, calls for four related cases to be moved to another court. These cases stem from allegations linked to the land-for-jobs scam, the IRCTC hotel matter, and connected money-laundering investigations. The plea claims that the presiding judge has displayed bias in favor of the prosecution, raising concerns over the fairness of the trial.
Opposing the move, the CBI told the court that the allegations against Judge Gogne are baseless and amount to “forum shopping.” The agency maintained that dissatisfaction with judicial orders cannot be grounds for seeking a change of judge and warned that such practices weaken public trust in the justice system. It asserted that the language used in the plea appears designed to undermine the authority and dignity of the court.
The CBI further clarified that actions cited as evidence of bias—such as the judge reading out orders in both Hindi and English—are routine judicial practices meant to ensure transparency. Claims that court proceedings were timed to suit political developments were also dismissed as speculative and unsupported.
According to the agency, the timing of the transfer request is significant, as it was filed after charges had been framed and the trial had progressed substantially. The CBI argued that this suggests an effort to delay proceedings rather than address any genuine legal concern.
