Centre notifies appointment of 9 High Court judges

The Union of India on Friday notified the elevation of eight Additional Judges and one Judicial Officer as judges of five High Courts across the country. 

The Central government further extended the tenure of seven Additional Judges serving at the Calcutta High Court by one year. 

A notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice said the President of India, in consultation with the respective constitutional authorities, issued a series of appointment notifications under Articles 217 and 224 of the Constitution, approving the elevation and appointment of judges to various High Courts across the country. 

The appointments were notified by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Justice through official Gazette publications, it added.

As per the notification, the Central government elevated Justice Harinath Nunepally, Justice Kiranmayee Mandava, Justice Sumathi Jagadam and Justice Nyapathy Vijay, currently serving as Additional Judges at the Andhra Pradesh High Court, to permanent judges of the same High Court. 

Additional Judges – Justice Partha Sarathi Sen and Justice Apurba Sinha Ray were appointed as permanent judges of the Calcutta High Court. Besides, the tenure of seven Additional Judges was extended by one year, effective from August 31, 2025. These included Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury, Justice Prasenjit Biswas, Justice Uday Kumar, Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta, Justice Supratim Bhattacharya, Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee, and Justice Md Shabbar Rashidi. 

Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal, currently serving as an Additional Judge, was elevated as a Permanent Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

Justice Gurusiddaiah Basavaraja, currently serving as an Additional Judge, was elevated as a permanent judge of the Karnataka High Court. 

Judicial Officer Vimal Kumar Yadav was  directly appointed as a judge of the Delhi High Court.
