Chhattisgarh High Court orders clearing encroachments near Bilaspur

14/01/2025BlogNo Comments

The Chhattisgarh High Court has recently directed the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Bilaspur, to take necessary actions to remove encroachments and ensure the Pendridih Bypass is cleaned up and traffic congestion is eased in the city.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal noted the encroachment by vendors and shopkeepers along the Bypass was not only obstructing the smooth flow of traffic but also posing a threat to environmental conditions and public safety.

In compliance with the court’s order, the police team, along with the Nagar Panchayat team, removed encroachments, including shopcarts and other obstacles disturbing the flow of traffic. The court appreciated the efforts of the police to minimise traffic congestion in the city.

The police have declared certain roads, such as Sadar Bazar Road and Golbazar Road, as one-way, which has helped to reduce traffic congestion in those areas.

Additionally, the fruit market at Valmiki Chowk has been shifted to a new location near Rapta Bridge, which has also helped to reduce traffic congestion.

The court also took note of the police’s efforts to take action against vehicles parked in no-parking zones. Between January and November 2024, the police issued 7,762 challans and imposed a penalty of Rs 23,28,600 under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The case has been listed for further monitoring on March 3, 2025.
