Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has restructured the Supreme Court’s Artificial Intelligence Committee, assigning Justice P.S. Narasimha as its new chair. The revamped panel has been tasked with overseeing the development and rollout of AI-based systems within the Supreme Court and the broader judicial framework.
The committee now includes Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Kerala High Court judge Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V., Punjab & Haryana High Court judge Justice Anoop Chitkara, and Karnataka High Court judge Justice Suraj Govindaraj. Their collective mandate is to evaluate existing AI initiatives, guide future technological adoption, and ensure that innovations align with judicial standards of fairness and transparency.
Registrar (Technology) Anupam Patra will function as the Member-Secretary and Convenor of the committee, while Ashish J. Shiradhonkar from the e-Committee (Systems) has been named a Special Invitee.
According to the Court, the panel’s reconstitution reflects a renewed push to responsibly integrate advanced technology into court operations—aimed at improving efficiency, easing access to justice, and strengthening transparency in judicial processes. The committee will supervise all ongoing AI projects and shape policy for upcoming technological reforms within the judiciary.
