CJI remarks row: SCAORA condemns BJP MP Nishikant Dubey

22/04/2025BlogNo Comments

The Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association (SCAORA) on Tuesday condemned BJP leader and Member of Parliament (MP)
Nishikant Dubey over his derogatory remarks against the Chief Justice of India.

A statement issued by the association said that the comments were not only factually baseless and deeply irresponsible, but they also amounted to a direct and unwarranted attack on the independence, dignity, and majesty of the country’s highest Constitutional court.

Calling the remarks as defamatory in nature, the association said the comments sought to lower the judiciary’s authority in the eyes of the public.

It was a fundamental tenet of the Indian democracy that the judiciary remaind independent and respected as one of the key pillars of the Constitution. While the individuals may have disagreements with particular judgments or orders of the courts, the expression of such disagreements must remain within the bounds of dignity, constitutional decorum and legal propriety, it noted.

The association said the use of scandalous, derogatory and inflammatory language against the Chief Justice of India and the institution of the Supreme Court, particularly for personal or political mileage, was wholly uncalled for, and set a dangerous precedent under the faith of the common citizen in the rule of law.

It requested all public representatives to exercise restraint, uphold constitutional values, and respect the dignity of the judiciary.

SCAORA stood in solidarity with the CJI and the institution of the Supreme Court in the face of such irresponsible and damaging rhetoric, it added.
