Delhi court discharges Saket Gokhale, Derek O’Brien, Sagarika Ghose in protest outside ECI case

A Delhi court has discharged 10 Trinamool Congress leaders, including journalist-turned-politician Sagarika Ghose, MP Derek O’Brien and party spokesperson Saket Gokhale, in a criminal case related to their protest outside the Election Commission of India (ECI) premises in 2024, despite prohibitory orders.

The order was passed on Thursday by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Neha Mittal of the Rouse Avenue Courts.

Earlier on May 13, the court had granted bail to the AITC leaders under Section 437A CrPC.

On April 30 this year, the Rouse Avenue Court had granted exemption from personal appearance for the day to eight AITC leaders, including Santanu Sen, Dola Sen, Nadimul Haque, Arpita Ghosh, Abir Ranjan Bishwas and Sudip Raha.

The court had summoned AITC MP Vivek Gupta and asked him to appear again on the next date to formally furnish a bail bond. It issued fresh summons to Santanu Sen after the earlier summons reportedly returned unserved.

The court had originally issued summons to the 10 AITC leaders on April 21.
