Gauhati High Court directs Arunachal PWD to submit report on highway construction

19/02/2025BlogNo Comments

The Gauhati High Court has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) of Arunachal Pradesh to submit a status report on the construction of the National Highway from Papu Nallah to Nirjuli.

The court’s direction came in a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Vijay Jamoh and another, who complained about the poor condition of the road and the slow pace of construction work.

The court had earlier passed an order on January 27, 2025, directing the PWD to provide certain information, including the details of the contract, the names of the contractors, and the progress of the work.

The court had also sought information on the plans of the PWD to ensure smooth use of the road by pedestrians and vehicle traffic during the monsoon season.

When the matter came up for hearing again, the Additional Advocate General for Arunachal Pradesh submitted that the departmental authorities had prepared a status report, which would be brought on record during the course of the day.

The court directed that a copy of the status report be furnished to the learned counsel for the petitioner during the course of the day.

The Itanagar Bench of Justice Suman Shyam and Justice Kardak Ete also directed that the PIL petition be listed again in the next week along with the status report.
