26/09/2024BlogNo Comments

A Mumbai court on Thursday sentenced Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut to 15 days jail term for defaming BJP leader & former MLA Kirit Somaiya and his wife Medha Somaiya.

The Mazgaon Metropolitan Court further ordered Raut to pay a compensation of Rs 25,000 to complainant Medha Somaiya after the expiry of the appeal period.

Medha had filed a complaint against Raut in 2022 under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The petitioner alleged that the Shiv Sena leader accused her husband of being involved in a Rs 100 crore scam pertaining to the construction of some toilets in the jurisdiction of Mira-Bhayandar, the twin-city near Mumbai.

Advocate Vivekananda Gupta appeared for Somaiya.

A detailed copy of the order is awaited.
