Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute: Allahabad High Court refuses to substitute Shahi Idgah Mosque with disputed structure in future proceedings

The Allahabad High Court has dismissed an application seeking to substitute the term ‘Shahi Idgah Mosque’ with ‘disputed structure’ in all future proceedings related to the cases before it.

The single-judge Bench of Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra orally said on Thursday that application A-44 was being dismissed at this stage.

Advocate Mahendra Pratap Singh filed the petition in Original Suit OSUT No. 13 of 2023, along with an affidavit. The plea was supported by several other parties, including plaintiffs in OSUT No. 07 of 2023.

Application A-44 specifically urged the High Court to direct the concerned stenographer to replace the term ‘Shahi Idgah Mosque’ with ‘disputed structure’ throughout the ongoing case documents and future proceedings.

The Muslim side submitted a written objection to the High Court, opposing any such change in official references to the mosque.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the single-judge Bench rejected the petition and upheld the objection raised by the Muslim side.

The Hindu side has filed 18 petitions relating to the contentious land and religious claims surrounding the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi and the Shahi Idgah mosque in Mathura. The mosque stands adjacent to what many Hindus believe is the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
