Manipur High Court disposes of PIL on ration distribution

27/12/2024BlogNo Comments

The Manipur High Court has recently disposed of a public interest litigation (PIL) relating to the distribution of ration rice under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) in Longpi Kajui A and B villages.

The respondents submitted that the Fair Price Shop agents for the villages had already been changed for the year 2023-2024, and the new agents had been appointed without any complaints from the beneficiaries.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice D Krishnakumar and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui observed that the petitioner had not made any complaint regarding the Fair Price Shop agents, and therefore, directed the petitioner to make a complaint, if any, to the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul district within a period of two weeks, furnishing all the details and particulars of the Fair Price Shop agents.

The Deputy Commissioner was directed to take necessary action based on the complaint, if any, against the persons involved in any illegalities committed in the distribution of rations rice or misappropriation of funds.

The court disposed of the PIL with the above directions, emphasizing the need for the petitioner to approach the Deputy Commissioner with any grievances, rather than seeking judicial intervention.
