Ministers, CJI, judges break ground at ceremony ahead of Supreme Court expansion work

A Bhumi Pujan ceremony was organised in the Supreme Court premises on Monday for the expansion of the building.

The event began with the recitation of verses in Sanskrit from the Indian scriptures, followed by the scriptures of four major religions in India.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Union Power and Housing Minister Manohar Lal, among others, attended the ground-breaking ceremony.

The expansion is being done to accommodate more court rooms in the Apex Court building located at Tilak Marg in New Delhi.

Supreme Court judges Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, Justice Vikram Nath and Justice BV Nagarathna, along with retired judge Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, were among those present on the occasion.

The Apex Court judges, along with their spouses, used pickaxes to symbolically break ground at the site of the new building.

The Supreme Court building at Tilak Marg in New Delhi will undergo further expansion to accommodate court rooms.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Union Minister of State with independent charge of Law and Justice Ministry Arjun Ram Meghwal attended the ground breaking ceremony of the new building.

Sitting judges Justices Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, Vikram Nath and BV Nagarathna and former apex court judge Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul also graced the occasion.

Union Power and Housing Minister Manohar Lal also attended the event.
