Murder accused booked for throwing slipper at judge in Thane court

Maharashtra Police has booked a 22-year-old murder accused for throwing a slipper at a District and Additional Sessions court judge during proceedings in Thane district of Maharashtra.

Officials of the Mahatma Fule police station on Monday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against one Kiran Santosh Bharam under Sections 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty) and 125 (acts endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The incident occurred on Saturday during a routine hearing presided over by District and Additional Sessions Judge RG Waghmare in Kalyan.

Bharam had requested the transfer of his case to another court. When his lawyer failed to appear to file the necessary application, the judge instructed him to appoint another representative and rescheduled the hearing.

This infuriated the murder accused, who was reportedly upset over the absence of his lawyer. He bent down, removed his slipper, and hurled it towards the judge.

The slipper did not hit the judge but instead struck a wooden frame in front of his desk, landing near the bench clerk.
