PM Modi inaugurates National Conference of District Judiciary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the National Conference of District Judiciary, commemorating 75 years of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court of India organised a two-day national conference of the District Judiciary on August 31 and September 1.

A commemorative stamp and coin to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court of India was unveiled by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While addressing the inaugural session of National Conference of District Judiciary PM Modi said talked about the major social issues that atrocities on social issues including the safety of women and children.

In his speech the PM spoke about implementation of the strict laws which have been made in the country for safety of women.

Praising the judiciary, PM Modi said that the judiciary has been the protector of the Constitution, and commended the Supreme Court for fulfilling its duties.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud called for an end to the colonial-era practice of referring to district courts as subordinate.

The CJI said that to sustain the spine of the legal system, it was important to stop calling the district judiciary as subordinate judiciary.

After 75 years after Independence, the time has come to bury one more relic of the British era – the colonial mindset of subordination.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Supreme Court Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Attorney General R Venkataramani, and Bar Council of India Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra also addressed the gathering.

President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to deliver the valedictory address on September 1, where she will also unveil the flag and insignia of the Supreme Court.
