Subhash Place custodial death case: Delhi court orders registration of FIR

10/06/2025BlogNo Comments

A Delhi court has ordered the registration of a first information report (FIR) and probe into the death case of one Sheikh Shadat, who died due to custodial torture at Subhash Place Police Station.

Noting that photographs and video footage of Shadat’s body showed multiple injury marks, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Vasundhra Chhaunkar ruled that a probe was necessary to examine technical evidence and witness accounts.

Setting aside a judicial inquest, which concluded that Shadat died of coronary artery disease and found no signs of homicide or suicide, the Magistrate Court said prima facie, a cognisable offence was disclosed in the matter.
