The Supreme Court of India strongly criticised former MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy and his brother Pinnelli Venkatarami Reddy after discovering that they had obtained a confidential case diary connected to a double murder investigation involving members of the Telugu Desam Party. The Court expressed serious concern over the apparent ease with which such sensitive material was accessed, calling it an obvious attempt to interfere with the investigation.
During the hearing of their anticipatory bail pleas, the bench led by Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta questioned how the accused were able to secure documents that should have remained strictly within investigative channels. Justice Mehta described the situation as unacceptable and ordered that both brothers undergo custodial interrogation. Their argument that the documents were obtained through legitimate means was rejected by the Court, which stated that the circumstances amounted to a clear case of tampering.
The Court noted that the case diary seemed to have been made available without any resistance and refused their requests for anticipatory bail. The brothers were directed to surrender within two weeks.
In the year 2024, the Supreme Court prevented MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy from entering specific vote counting areas after accusations were made that he attempted to interfere with Electronic Voting Machines. A separate bench later observed that the interim protection he had been granted in that matter was unnecessary.
