Supreme Court declines to hear Jan Suraaj Party plea alleging cash-for-votes in Bihar Elections

06/02/2026BlogNo Comments

The plea had sought judicial intervention, claiming that monetary incentives were being distributed to sway electoral outcomes and thereby compromise the sanctity of the democratic process. The petition urged the Court to take cognisance of what it described as serious violations of electoral norms.

However, the apex court declined to examine the allegations at this juncture, indicating that the issues raised did not merit immediate judicial scrutiny. The Court underscored the principle that complaints relating to electoral malpractices are ordinarily addressed through statutory mechanisms, including the Election Commission of India and remedies available under election law after the conclusion of the polling process.

With the Court’s refusal to entertain the petition, the matter remains outside the scope of judicial intervention for now, reinforcing the established legal position that the judiciary exercises restraint in electoral matters while the democratic process is ongoing.
