The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has designated 15 advocates, including six women, as Senior Advocates, in exercise of its powers under Section 16(2) of the Advocates Act, 1961, recognising their standing at the Bar, professional experience, legal acumen and contribution to the administration of justice.
The designation has been made in accordance with the provisions of the Advocates Act, 1961, and the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2025. According to a notification issued by Registrar General MK Sharma, the designation has taken effect from May 22, 2026, subject to the statutory provisions of the Advocates Act and the conditions prescribed under the 2025 Rules governing the conferment of senior designation.
The advocates who have been designated as Senior Advocates are Arifa Jan, Ajay K Gandotra, Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, Rozina Afzal, Pran Nath Bhat, Abdul Rashid Malik, Monika Kohli, Adarsh Kumar Sharma, Mandeep Reen, Pawan Kumar Kundal, Radha Sharma, Ajay Pal Singh, Anshuja Sharma Tak, Manzoor Ali and Vikas Mangotra.
Of the 15 advocates conferred with the designation, six are women. These include Arifa Jan, Rozina Afzal, Monika Kohli, Radha Sharma, Anshuja Sharma Tak and Mandeep Reen.
The High Court stated that the designation has been conferred in exercise of its statutory jurisdiction under Section 16(2) of the Advocates Act, 1961, and shall remain subject to the terms, conditions and obligations prescribed under the Act as well as the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2025.
The notification further records that copies of the designation order have been forwarded to the Secretary General of the Supreme Court of India, the Registrar Generals of all High Courts, the Bar Council of India, the concerned State Bar Councils, the Advocate General of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh, various Bar Associations and other judicial authorities for information, necessary action and compliance.
