Chhattisgarh High Court orders action against substandard pulses at Anganwadi centres

17/12/2024BlogNo Comments

The Chhattisgarh High Court recently heard a suo motu public interest litigation (PIL) regarding the welfare of special children in Anganwadi centres.

The court had taken cognizance of the issue and observed that there was no mechanism in place to identify special children and provide them with requisite assistance.

In compliance with the court’s order, the Director of Women and Child Development filed an affidavit stating that the Government of India had issued a protocol for special children in Anganwadi centres.

The protocol provides for the identification and registration of special children, quarterly assessments, and assistance from Anganwadi workers.

The court also received a report from the learned Court Commissioners, who had visited various Anganwadi centres and verified the averments made in the affidavit.

The report highlighted certain issues, including the purchase of substandard pulses for the Anganwadi centres.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Amitendra Kishore Prasad directed the concerned departments to take necessary action and submit a report on the next date of hearing.

The matter has been listed for further hearing on January 30, 2025.
