Delhi High Court to hear Karti Chidambaram plea in bribe case on April 16

The Delhi High Court will hear on April 16, a petition filed by Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram, seeking quashing of a fresh corruption case registered against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly taking illegal gratification from an alcoholic beverage company.

CBI accused Chidambaram of taking illegal gratification from Diageo Scotland in exchange for lifting a liquor import ban in 2005, during the tenure of his father, P Chidambaram, as Union Finance Minister.

The single-judge Bench of Justice Vikas Mahajan adjourned the case after the lawyer appearing for Chidambaram sought adjournment on the grounds that the arguing counsel in the matter was not available.

CBI booked Chidambaram for offences under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and for offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

He is also an accused in the Aircel-Maxis case, the INX Media case, and the Chinese Visa case.
