The President of India has directed Justice Nisha Banu to take charge as a judge of the Kerala High Court on or before December 20, according to an official communication issued by the Union government. The direction follows her transfer from the Madras High Court, which had earlier been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium.
Justice Nisha Banu’s transfer forms part of a series of judicial reshuffles aimed at addressing administrative requirements and balancing judicial strength across High Courts. The President’s order formalises the transfer and requires her to assume office within the stipulated timeframe to ensure continuity in the functioning of the Kerala High Court.
Justice Banu has served as a judge of the Madras High Court for several years and has dealt with a wide range of civil, criminal and constitutional matters. Her posting to Kerala is expected to bolster the court’s judicial capacity amid a heavy pendency of cases.
The Centre’s notification reiterated that transfers of High Court judges are made in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, as mandated under the Constitution. With the President’s directive now in place, Justice Nisha Banu is expected to complete the formalities and join the Kerala High Court within the specified deadline.
