The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the appointment of 19 persons as judges of the Madras High Court. Of them, 10 are advocates and the rest are judicial officers.
The decision was taken at the Collegium meeting held on May 18, 2026, where proposals forwarded on different dates in November and December 2025 were considered and cleared.
Under the proposal dated November 4, 2025, the Collegium approved the names of advocates Dr P Murugan, MD Sumathi, S Alli, C Thirumagal Chandrasekar, Dharmalingam Lingeswaran and Karthikeyan Balathandayutham.
Under the proposal dated November 21, 2025, the Collegium cleared the names of advocates Natarajan Ramesh, GK Muthukumaar, Ramakrishnan Rajesh Vivekananthan, Sankaranarayanan Raveekumar, Nagarajan Dilip Kumar and Ellappan Manoharan.
The proposal dated December 7, 2025 pertained to judicial officers Krishnaswamy Govindarajan, Rajnish Pathiyil, K Appadurai alias Kandavel Appadurai and Ramasamy Anitha, whose names were also approved by the Collegium.
Further, under the proposal dated December 10, 2025, the Collegium approved the elevation of judicial officers Shanmugam Karthikeyan, Baluchamy Murugesan and N Gunasekaran.
The recommendations have now been forwarded to the Union government for further processing and issuance of warrants of appointment by the President of India.
