Twisha Sharma death case: Plea filed in MP High Court seeking cancellation of mother-in-law’s anticipatory bail

21/05/2026BlogNo Comments

Navnidhi Sharma, father of deceased former Miss Pune Twisha Sharma, on Thursday approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to former district judge and Twisha’s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, in connection with the case related to her death in mysterious circumstances.

The petition challenged the May 15 order passed by a Bhopal sessions court granting pre-arrest bail to Giribala Singh. While extending protection from arrest, the sessions court had taken into account Singh’s age of 63 years and her status as a retired judicial officer. The court had also observed that the primary allegations in the case were directed against Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh.

The petition is yet to be listed for hearing before the High Court and is likely to be taken up by a Vacation Bench.

Meanwhile, Samarth Singh also moved the High Court on Thursday seeking anticipatory bail after a sessions court recently rejected his plea for protection from arrest. According to the police, he is currently evading arrest.

Twisha Sharma, a woman based in Noida, married Bhopal-based advocate Samarth Singh around five months ago after the two reportedly met on a dating app.

Sharma’s family has alleged that she was subjected to continuous domestic violence, cruelty and harassment by her in-laws. They have also demanded a second post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.

An FIR has been registered at Katara Hills Police Station, and the police are investigating allegations of dowry harassment and matrimonial cruelty. According to media reports, both Samarth and Giribala Singh have been booked in the case.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Pallavi Dwivedi had earlier rejected Samarth Singh’s anticipatory bail application.

Following the grant of anticipatory bail to Giribala Singh, criticism has emerged over media interviews allegedly given by her concerning her deceased daughter-in-law.

Samarth Singh is a practising advocate, while Giribala Singh, a retired judicial officer, is presently serving as the President of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC).
