Advocate Devvrat to lead SCAORA after election victory

22/05/2026BlogNo Comments

Advocate Devvrat has been elected as the new President of the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) following the association’s executive committee elections held on Thursday.

Advocate Nikhil Jain was elected Vice President, while Advocate Yugandhara Pawar Jha secured the post of Secretary in the newly elected body. While Devvrat secured the post after defeating Advocate Shivaji M Jadhav in a direct contest, Jain secured victory against three other candidates, and Jha won in a four-candidate contest for the Secretary’s post.

A total of 58 candidates contested various posts in the election.

Meanwhile, the counting process for several other posts, including Treasurer, Joint Secretary, Joint Treasurer and Executive Committee Members, is still in progress.

The election process also incorporated gender representation norms, with certain posts reserved for women candidates in compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court on April 13, including the posts of Secretary, Joint Treasurer, and two Executive Committee positions.

SCAORA is a prominent body representing Advocates-on-Record practising before the Supreme Court. Under the Supreme Court Rules, only Advocates-on-Record are entitled to file and conduct cases before the Apex Court on behalf of litigants.

Devvrat’s election is being viewed as significant within the legal fraternity, given the influential role played by the association in matters concerning the functioning of the Supreme Court Bar and issues affecting Advocates-on-Record.
