Delhi University’s prestigious Hansraj College has partnered with APN News’ Global Foundation for Media and Innovation Institute (GFMI) and Balaji Foundation to introduce industry-oriented advanced diploma programmes in Artificial Intelligence, media and digital innovation, marking a significant step towards integrating emerging technologies with professional education.
The initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Rajshri Rai, Editor-in-Chief, APN News and Chairperson, Balaji Foundation, and Prof. Rama, Principal, Hansraj College. The collaboration seeks to establish a practice-driven academic ecosystem that equips students with contemporary technological competencies while providing them with meaningful exposure to the evolving demands of the media and communication industry.
The future-ready AI media programmes were formally launched on Tuesday at Hansraj College. The launch was accompanied by a special industry seminar on “New Age Media and Marketing”, which drew enthusiastic participation from students and provided a platform for discussions on the rapidly transforming media, marketing and communications landscape.
Rajshri Rai, Editor-in-Chief, APN News; Jyotsna Das Nanda, AVP-Corporate Communications, DS Group; and Abhinav Pandey, Founding Editor, The Newspinch, addressed the students during the programme, sharing industry perspectives on technological disruption, emerging media models, brand communication and the changing architecture of news consumption.
The programmes have been conceptualised around the convergence of Artificial Intelligence, journalism, strategic communication, digital media and content innovation. The curriculum is designed to familiarise students with AI-enabled journalism, technology-assisted content production, digital storytelling and emerging newsroom workflows, thereby preparing them for a media environment increasingly shaped by automation, data and generative technologies.
Alongside AI and media programmes, specialised courses in AI-driven Digital Marketing, Branding and Advertising have also been introduced. These programmes are aimed at developing competencies across the contemporary communications value chain, including brand strategy, digital campaign management, audience analytics, creative content development and technology-enabled marketing.
A key component of the initiative is its emphasis on experiential learning. Students will receive live newsroom exposure, undertake industry-oriented projects and have access to internship opportunities designed to translate classroom learning into professional capabilities. The curriculum will also provide specialised exposure to legal journalism and legal news reporting, enabling aspiring media professionals to develop an understanding of court reporting, legal developments and the specialised language and frameworks associated with judicial and regulatory coverage.
Speaking at the launch, Rajshri Rai said the partnership was conceived to integrate emerging technologies into professional disciplines including Mass Communication, Advertising, Marketing, Legal Studies and Digital Media.
“The principal objective of this partnership is to integrate emerging technologies into professional education. Students will receive specialised training in AI-powered journalism, digital branding, OTT production and strategic communication, enabling them to acquire industry-relevant competencies and helping bridge the persistent gap between academic learning and professional requirements,” she said.
Prof. Rama, Principal, Hansraj College, said the institution has consistently emphasised academic innovation and future-oriented learning.
“Hansraj College has always believed in academic innovation and future-focused learning. Through this partnership, our objective is to provide students with practical exposure, emerging technology skills and meaningful engagement with industry in accordance with evolving global trends,” she said.
Designed to widen access beyond Delhi, the programmes will be offered through both online and offline modes. The academic architecture extends beyond conventional classroom instruction, with structured components encompassing internships, industry mentorship, career counselling, live professional exposure and placement assistance.
The faculty comprises experienced academics and established professionals, bringing together academic expertise and industry knowledge to provide students with a multidisciplinary learning environment.
The response to the programmes has reportedly been encouraging, with more than two-thirds of the available seats already filled and continued enquiries from prospective students.
The collaboration between Hansraj College, APN News’ GFMI and Balaji Foundation is positioned as an emerging model for AI-integrated media education, combining academic instruction with newsroom immersion, technological proficiency and employability-oriented training.
At a time when Artificial Intelligence is rapidly reshaping journalism, advertising, marketing and strategic communications, the initiative seeks to create a talent pipeline equipped not merely with theoretical knowledge but with the digital, editorial and professional competencies required by the next generation of India’s media and communications ecosystem.
