On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Chief Justice of India, Shri Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai, accompanied by his family, took part in the commemorative ceremony held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius. The Chief Justice, during his visit, paid a solemn floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, on his birth anniversary.

The event was hosted at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI), a premier cultural and educational institution jointly established by the Governments of India and Mauritius. The Institute stands as a testament to the shared historical bonds between the two nations and serves as a hub for the promotion of Indian culture, language, and heritage in Mauritius. Over the years, MGI has played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral relations through cultural exchange and academic collaboration.
The Chief Justice of India is presently on a three-day official visit to Mauritius, aimed at furthering institutional cooperation and fostering mutual understanding between the judicial systems of the two countries. His participation in the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations not only highlighted the strong historical ties but also underscored the common values of democracy, justice, and rule of law that India and Mauritius uphold.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of several dignitaries and senior representatives of the Government of Mauritius. Among those who attended were Dr. the Hon. Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research; Dr. the Hon. Mahend Gungapersad, Minister of Education and Human Resource; along with junior ministers, Members of Parliament, and senior officials from different departments. Their participation reflected the high regard that the people and Government of Mauritius hold for Mahatma Gandhi and his timeless message.
The gathering served not only as a tribute to the memory of Mahatma Gandhi but also as a reminder of the enduring cultural and historical ties between India and Mauritius.
