CJI Chandrachud reconstitutes gender sensitisation committee of Supreme Court

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has reconstituted the Supreme Court Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee, starting with the nomination of Justice BV Nagarathna as the Chairperson of GSICC.

The CJI has also nominated three members of the committee, which include Jaideep Gupta, Senior Advocate and senior member of the Supreme Court Bar Association; Dr. Leni Chaudhuri, Executive Director at the University of Chicago Centre in India Private Limited; and Senior Advocate Bansuri Swaraj.

Other members of the committee include Supreme Court judge Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, Additional Registrar and Officer in service of the Supreme Court of India Dr. Sukhda Pritam, Senior Advocate and senior SCBA member Dr. Menaka Guruswamy, Advocates Nina Gupta and Soumyajit Pani, Advocate and SCBA representative Sakshi Banga, Advocate-on-Record and representative of the Supreme Court Advocate-on-Record Association Anindita Pujari, and representative of the Supreme Court Bar Clerks’ Association Madhu Chauhan.

The GSICC has been assigned to address the issues related to gender discrimination, harassment and inequality.

The reconstitution of the committee was done following the retirement of Supreme Court judge and former Chairperson of the Committee, Justice Hima Kohli.

The process was done in exercise of the powers conferred by Clause 4(2) of the Gender Sensitisation & Sexual Harassment of Women at the Supreme Court of India (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Regulations, 2013.
