Delhi High Court rejects Sameer Wankhede’s defamation suit against Aryan Khan’s Netflix series Bards of Bollywood

29/01/2026BlogNo Comments

The Delhi High Court has declined to entertain a defamation lawsuit filed by former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede against the Netflix series Ba**ds of Bollywood*, which is reportedly inspired by events surrounding the 2021 drug case involving Aryan Khan. The court rejected the plea on the ground that it lacks territorial jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Wankhede had approached the High Court alleging that the series contains scenes and characters that closely resemble him and portray him in a derogatory and mocking manner. According to him, the depiction damages his reputation as a public servant and was designed to sensationalise real events for entertainment. He sought compensation amounting to ₹2 crore, proposing that the money be donated to charitable causes.

The show, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and streamed on Netflix, is said to draw from high-profile developments in Bollywood, including the controversial arrest and subsequent clearance of Aryan Khan in the NCB case. Wankhede argued that the timing and narrative of the series unfairly target him and reopen a chapter that had already concluded legally.

However, the Delhi High Court ruled that it does not have the authority to adjudicate the dispute. The bench ordered that the plaint be returned, allowing Wankhede to move an appropriate court that has jurisdiction over the matter.

With this ruling, the legal challenge to Ba**ds of Bollywood* in the Delhi High Court has come to an end for now, leaving the streaming platform and producers free from restraint under this particular petition.
