Engineer Rashid gets interim bail to meet critically ill father

28/04/2026BlogNo Comments

The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, allowing him temporary relief to meet his critically ill father. The decision has drawn attention for its emphasis on humanitarian considerations within the judicial process.

A bench of Justice Vikas Mahajan permitted Rashid, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, to stay with his father either at the hospital or at his residence during the interim bail period.

According to court proceedings, the interim bail is strictly time-bound and subject to specific conditions to ensure compliance with legal protocols. The bench noted that while the case against Rashid remains under judicial scrutiny, personal circumstances particularly the grave health condition of an immediate family member warrant compassionate intervention.

The political party Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), led by Rashid, welcomed the court’s decision and described it as a reflection of “humanitarian justice.” Party representatives stated that the move reinforces faith in the judiciary’s ability to balance the rule of law with empathy in exceptional situations.

Legal observers point out that interim bail on humanitarian grounds is not unprecedented in Indian courts, especially in cases involving serious illness or bereavement in the family. However, such relief is typically granted with strict safeguards, ensuring that it does not interfere with ongoing investigations or judicial proceedings.

The development has sparked broader discussions on the role of compassion in the justice system, particularly in high-profile cases. While opinions remain divided, the court’s decision underscores a recurring principle in Indian jurisprudence: that justice is not only about legal correctness but also about humane consideration in moments of personal crisis.
