Government refutes claim of Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal attending London badminton event with judges

12/06/2026BlogNo Comments

The Ministry of Law and Justice has dismissed as false and misleading a viral claim circulating on social media and certain digital platforms alleging that Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal attended the Second International Bar and Bench Badminton Championship in London on June 7, 2026, along with 75 judges of the Supreme Court and various High Courts.

In an official clarification, the Ministry stated that the allegation was factually incorrect and based on misleading material being circulated online. It clarified that photographs being shared to support the claim were not connected to the London event and were, in fact, old images taken during the All India Judges’ Badminton Championship held at Thyagraj Stadium in New Delhi on November 29, 2025.

The Ministry further stated that the viral claim was examined by the Press Information Bureau (PIB)’s Fact Check Unit, which found the information being circulated in the public domain to be false. According to the government, the photographs were being presented out of context, creating an incorrect impression regarding the Minister’s participation in the overseas event.

The clarification also addressed the Minister’s whereabouts on the date in question. The Ministry stated that on June 7, 2026, Meghwal was present in Bikaner, Rajasthan, where he attended official meetings and participated in public programmes within his parliamentary constituency. It asserted that the Minister was not present in London on that day.

The statement was issued amid widespread circulation of social media posts and videos claiming that the Union Minister had attended the international badminton event alongside sitting judges. The Ministry maintained that the allegation lacked any factual basis and had been disproved through official verification.

Emphasising the need for responsible dissemination of information, the Ministry urged media organisations, digital platforms and members of the public to verify facts through authentic and official sources before publishing or sharing such claims. It cautioned that the spread of inaccurate and unverified information has the potential to mislead the public, distort facts and create unnecessary confusion.

The Ministry reiterated that the claim regarding Meghwal’s participation in the London badminton championship was incorrect and that the supporting photographs being circulated online were unrelated to the event in question.
