Gujarat High Court hears case against market comittee ex-chief for diverting Rs 146 crore to build 5-star hotel

15/10/2024BlogNo Comments

The Gujarat High Court recently addressed the alleged misappropriation of the Market Committee Fund and the construction of a Five-Star hotel.

The Director, Agriculture Marketing and Rural Finance, State of Gujarat, submitted an inquiry report under Section 44 of the Gujarat Agricultural Produce and Marketing (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 1963.

The report found the then Chairman of the Market Committee guilty of proceeding with the hotel’s construction despite contrary resolutions.

The court has directed the Director to file a personal affidavit providing all relevant resolutions of the Market Committee.

Additionally, a show-cause notice has been issued to the former Chairman to explain why Rs 146 crore spent on the hotel’s construction should not be recovered from him.

The Agricultural Produce Market Committee has also issued a charge sheet to its Secretary regarding the allegations in the inquiry report.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Aniruddha P. Mayee has adjourned the matter until November 22, 2024.
