The Kerala High Court has directed the police authorities to provide protection to viral Kumbh Mela star Monalisa Bhosle after she alleged serious threats to her life following her marriage to Mohammed Farman Khan.
After hearing the submissions from the parties, the single-judge Bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas observed on Friday that police protection was warranted to safeguard the petitioner’s life and personal liberty. The Court directed the Station House Officer of the Central Police Station, Ernakulam, to provide adequate police protection to Monalisa pending adjudication of the writ petition. The matter has been listed for further hearing on July 10.
Monalisa had gained national attention after videos of her selling prayer beads during the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela went viral on social media. According to the writ petition, she subsequently entered the film industry and married actor Mohammed Farman Khan in Kerala on March 11, 2026. The marriage was stated to have been registered under the Kerala Registration of Marriages (Common) Rules, 2008.
The petitioner contended that after the news of her marriage became public, multiple social media accounts allegedly initiated a coordinated hate campaign against the couple. She alleged that photographs of the couple were publicly burnt and desecrated during protests, and videos of such incidents were widely circulated online.
Monalisa further submitted that she had received death threats from unidentified persons and that she and her husband were being continuously followed by unknown individuals. According to the petition, one of the messages allegedly threatened to shoot her for marrying a person described as a Pakistani.
Despite lodging complaints before the police authorities and the City Police Commissioner, the petitioner claimed that no effective relief had been forthcoming. She asserted that the continuing threats had created a genuine apprehension for her safety and had adversely affected her ability to pursue her acting career.
The petition seeking police protection forms part of a series of legal proceedings arising out of the couple’s marriage. Following allegations that Monalisa was only 16 years old at the time of marriage, a criminal case was registered in Madhya Pradesh on a complaint filed by her father.
Apprehending coercive action and arrest in connection with that case, Monalisa and Farman approached the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail. The High Court subsequently granted Farman protection from arrest for a period of one month, enabling him to pursue appropriate anticipatory bail remedies before the competent court in Madhya Pradesh.
In parallel proceedings, a private complaint challenging the validity and legality of the marriage is pending before a POCSO Court in Thiruvananthapuram. Separately, the couple has also approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court alleging manipulation and tampering of Monalisa’s age-related records.
