Madras High Court allows RSS route marches at 128 locations in Tamil Nadu on October 25, November 1

The Madras High Court has permitted the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to conduct route marches across 128 locations in Tamil Nadu on October 25 and November 1, while taking exception to the State Police’s repeated refusal to grant permission on grounds that had previously been rejected by the courts.

Justice V Lakshminarayanan criticised the police for relying on the same reasons to deny permission despite earlier judicial scrutiny of those grounds.

“They have not come up with any novel reasons for rejection. They have consistently given the very reasons which this Court found as lame,” the Court observed.

The High Court directed the police authorities to finalise the timings, routes and venues for the proposed route marches and accompanying public meetings by Monday, October 19.

The directions come amid repeated disputes over permission for RSS route marches in the State, with the organisation approaching the courts against the police’s decisions to deny approval.

The latest order requires the authorities to settle the logistical arrangements within the stipulated deadline, paving the way for the marches to be held at the 128 proposed locations on the designated dates.
