The report of the three-member Inquiry Committee that examined allegations against former Allahabad and Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma is set to be tabled in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, formally bringing the controversial ‘cash-at-home’ matter before Parliament.
The report, prepared under the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968, along with the oral and documentary evidence recorded during the proceedings, is listed for presentation in the Lok Sabha. The parliamentary agenda provides for the laying of Volumes I and II of the report in both Hindi and English, along with the evidence collected by the committee.
The committee was constituted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on August 12, 2025, to inquire into the allegations against Justice Varma. It was headed by Supreme Court Justice Aravind Kumar and comprised then Bombay High Court Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar, who has since been elevated to the Supreme Court, and Senior Advocate BV Acharya.
The panel submitted its report to Speaker Birla on May 18, 2026.
The inquiry followed a controversy that erupted after a fire at Justice Varma’s official residence in New Delhi in March 2025, following which a large quantity of alleged unaccounted cash was reportedly found. Justice Varma denied any wrongdoing and resigned as a judge on April 10, 2025.
