Supreme Court seeks responses from ECI, CEC on Rahul Gandhi, INDIA Bloc leaders challenge to SIR voter deletions

15/10/2026BlogNo Comments

The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on a plea filed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders challenging the deletion of voters’ names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The proceedings concern the legality of the voter-list revision exercise and the concerns raised by the petitioners over the deletion of names from electoral rolls. The challenge places the functioning of the electoral roll revision process and the safeguards governing the inclusion of eligible voters under judicial scrutiny.

The petitioners have approached the apex court seeking its intervention in relation to the SIR exercise, raising concerns about the consequences of voter deletions for the electoral process and the exercise of franchise.
